Smith files for reelection in 21st district

Congressman Lamar Smith today filed for reelection in the newly redrawn 21st Congressional District. Congressman Smith was first elected in 1987.
The new district includes parts of Bexar and Travis Counties as well as all of Bandera, Blanco, Comal, Kendall, Kerr, and Real Counties.
“I have been honored to have been supported by the voters of the 21st District in the past,” Smith said. “I will continue to work hard to earn their trust and support in the future.”
Smith added, “We must continue our efforts to improve education, create good jobs, and better secure our borders.”
Smith is a senior member of the Homeland Security, Science, Judiciary, and Ethics Committees. He has chaired Subcommittees on Immigration, Crime, and Intellectual Property.
Smith was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, and graduated from Yale University and Southern Methodist University Law School.
