Lamar Smith Files for Re-Election

Posted: Dec 10, 2007 Print

Congressman Lamar Smith today filed for re-election in the 21st Congressional District.

“Most Americans have doubts about the direction of our country.” Smith said. “But the American people deserve hope, not uncertainty.”

Smith added, “The role of the federal government is to provide homeland security and economic security. We must do more to secure the borders, guard against terrorists, create jobs, and promote prosperity.”

Since being re-elected in 2006 with 60% of the vote, Congressman Smith has been chosen by his colleagues in Congress to lead the Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee. He also serves as a senior member of the Homeland Security and Science Committees and is the senior Republican on the Ethics Task Force.

“As the Republican leader of the Judiciary Committee, I will advance these goals. I will continue to introduce legislation and vote for real solutions to the problems facing America,” Smith said.

The 21st Congressional District includes all or part of eight counties – Bandera, Bexar, Blanco, Comal, Kendall, Kerr, Real, and Travis Counties.
